Strategies to Stay Well During COVID-19

There has been many changes in our lives these last few weeks.  Whether you have been quarantined, self-isolating or practicing social distancing, what should we be doing to stay well?

Keep Informed - Being in the know is important.  Try to limit your time watching the news and scrolling through social media apps.  Pick a time of day to listen, read or watch the news.  Pay attention to how much time you are spending on Social Media platforms.  Keep track of your weekly online presence - time can get away from you quickly.

Connect with Family and Friends - Phone at least one person a day and have a quality, uninterrupted  conversation with them.  Drop off flowers to someone you know, needs cheering up.  Take advantage of technology and have a video conversation with loved ones.  Be aware and practice kindness as you do not always know how people are dealing with this crisis.

Plan your meals - If you haven't already done so, try curb-side pick up at your local grocery store.  Not only will you be practicing social distancing, you can really think about your meals in the coming week.  Look up new nutritious recipes and add the ingredients to your online shopping cart.  FYI: Select your date and time ASAP as it may be up to 10 days before a pick up date becomes available.

Exercise Regularly - Find the time that works best for you to fit in a exercise routine.  Try to keep this time consistent to create a healthy habit.   Each out to your fitness studio or gym - they may be offering live on-line classes or training.  Going out for a walk does wonders to your mood.  Getting fresh air and connecting to nature is a recipe for wellness.

Drink Plenty of Water - Staying hydrated is an important factor of wellness.  Drinking water helps regulate your digestive system and keeps your skin hydrated.  Drink a glass of water before heading over to the fridge for a snack - you may be thirsty, not hungry.  To calculate how much water your should drink - take your weight in pounds and multiply by 67% (120lbs x .67=80 oz).  This is how many ounces of water you should drink each day.  If you are working out, add 12 ounces of water for every 30 minutes that you workout.  Add a cucumber or a spring of mint to change up the flavor.

Be Kind To Yourself - Its okay to be unproductive sometimes.  These are unusual circumstances.  Give yourself permission to take the time to adjust.  We are all in this together and we will all get through this together.  You are not alone.  Enjoy relaxing, read a book, play video games, watch a new Netflix series or movie, or just CHILL
